Once Upon a Summer

in South Australia

From wine tastings amongst the lush, leafy groves of Adelaide Hills to lounging on the pure white shores of the Limestone Coast, there’s so much to do––and it’s all so close––in South Australia.

Here are our top five summer spots in South Australia, and a selection of beautiful homes right nearby.

Fleurieu Peninsula

Head just 40 minutes south of Adelaide to explore scenic coastlines flanked by rugged cliffs and blanketed with snow-white sand. Dotted along the Peninsula are charming towns like Victor Harbor and Goolwa where you can fill your head with maritime history by day and fill your belly with fresh seafood by night, before retiring to your peaceful retreat on the ocean’s edge.

Adelaide

Sand and surf are virtually inescapable in Adelaide, with beautiful beaches just minutes from the city centre. Head a short distance in the other direction and you’ll find yourself in world-famous wine regions where you can sip and savour the fruits of the foothills. With salty hair and a contented belly, head on home to your Airbnb where the ocean almost laps at your backdoor.

Limestone Coast

Wash crayfish down with whale vomit beer one day. (True story!) Wind through rolling hills and lush pastures in search of award-winning Wagyu the next. And then there are Mount Gambier’s spectacular sinkholes. Wander the sunken garden of Umpherston or don diving gear at Kilsby, where the crystal clear water is also used to distil craft gin––the perfect souvenir to take back to your beautiful 19th-Century barn.

Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is known as nature’s playground, and for good reason too. A raw and rugged coastline. Impeccably clear waters. Natural wonders and wildlife aplenty. And of course, this being South Australia, mouth-watering food and wine. As the island recovers from last year’s devastating bushfires, you’ll sleep soundly in your luxury yurt knowing that you’re doing your bit just by being there.

We’re doing our bit for domestic tourism

With international travel still off the cards, Australians are going to have to holiday a little closer to home this summer. But our incredible inventory of homes all across the country means that Airbnb is uniquely placed to support Tourism Australia in driving domestic tourism through their Holiday Here this Year initiative. So that’s exactly what we’re doing.
