#1 Best New Restaurant in America 2014 (yes, all of America). This a restaurant for foodies. The only downside is that they don’t take reservations and there’s often a long wait. The restaurant is located at 717 8th St, SE, along Barrack’s Row, a major concentration of restaurants, cafes, and bars. So if you make it to Rose’s and decide the line it too long, you’ll find many other nearby alternatives. (a scenic 20 minute walk or 12 minute Metro ride) http://www.rosesluxury.com

It’s located four blocks northwest of the White House. To get there, take metro to the Farragut West Station (a 10-minute Metro ride from the Capitol South Station located nearest to our home). Then walk southwest two blocks. Be sure to make reservations. wearefoundingfarmers.com

Shopping

For a memorable and authentic Capitol Hill shopping experience, visit historic Eastern Market, located at 7th and C Streets, SE. Dozens of local venders sell fresh produce, meats, baked goods and dairy the old-fashioned way. But you won’t find many name-brand items here. The Market is open every day except Mondays. It nearly doubles in size on Saturdays and Sundays when local artists and merchants set up around the historic building. The market is especially large when the weather is warm. It’s a scenic 15 minute walk from the house. You can also take Metro one stop east to the Eastern Market Station. When exiting the station, cross Pennsylvania Avenue and walk north on 7th Street one block.
