Public Works

Public Works is a multipurpose space that hosts the monthly Non Stop Bhangra dance party, and Punjabi dancing is no joke. I love when I walk in and first hear the dhol—the bhangra drum—and people are juiced. Everyone is wearing beautiful colors, the smiles are endless, and the ground is shaking. They bring DJs and musicians from all around the world. Before the party gets going, there’s a 5 to 10-minute free dance lesson, which is worth coming for. All the dancers that are part of the crew come out and teach simple hand movements—twisting the light bulb, petting the dog. And everybody does it together, it's really neat.

For a new club, Public Works has really turned the nightlife scene in SF on its head! Check their calendar as the music ranges from hip hop to electronic to pop but it's always a good show!
